How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin?

Our neighbor next door has a huge pumpkin patch & invited the girls over tonight to pick out their pumpkins. Surprisingly, they both picked perfectly small, round ones! There were pumpkins of every size & shape...they did pick a BIG round one for their dad. Interestingly, Riley & I checked out this book at the library last week. We both learned some pumpkin trivia that I had never heard before. The biggest pumpkin doesn't always have the most seeds. Did you know that you can tell which pumpkin has the most seeds by counting the number of lines on the outside? The more lines the pumpkin has, the more rows of seeds inside. I had to laugh out loud when Riley informed the "pumpkin lady" of this little known fact...guess our reading has stuck w/ her more than I thought!! Happy Pumpkin Picking!

Priceless Prints....

My mom got me this free-form fingerprint pendant kit for my birthday. We FINALLY decided to pull it out and do it today. It comes with silver clay that you use for the fingerprint you want. You make the fingerprint impression, let it sit out overnight to dry, then send it into the company. They return a charm of .999 fine silver charm to wear as a necklace. I'm going to submit Riley's print first, and if all goes well, then will do Sydney's too ( I wish it came w/ more than one, but it didn't)! Thanks mom!

Craft Making Craze!

By now, we've made several of the crafts in the halloween craft book! Riley is a non-stop crafting guru! We made ghost necklaces, which actually turned out REALLY cool, and the girls love them. Just need a bobbie pin, some glue & some black yarn for the necklace. Dry it overnight and voila!! This afternoon, we did the spider hat, which she thinks is way cool with her bat that we made a few days ago...check them out...good job Riley, I love that you enjoy being creative! And I love the time we get to spend together working on these things!

Halloween Happiness!

Riley & I went to the library yesterday morning. We found this really great Crafts for Halloween book. Of course, we had to pick out a few crafts and then sit down for the afternoon and do them. They actually were really fun, and the bat craft is awesome (once the wings dry) and they are hanging upside down.

Awesome Sunrise!

This was a sunrise that I saw while in Pagosa, on my way to the gym. I only had my cell phone camera...but it was better than nothing. The picture doesn't do the sunrise justice. I don't recall ever seeing a sunrise like it before, and it made me appreciate the beauty God creates around us every day, if we will just stop to notice....

Mesa Verde Indian Ruins

Mesa Verde (Spanish for Green Table) is located outside of Mancos, Co in the four corners area. It is said to be on the National Geographic List of "100 things to see". There are amazing Pueblo Indian ruins, specifically the cliff dwellings. We only had time to do a 1/2 day trek, and could have easily spent more time there. The kids were amazed by the stone buildings & even were captivated by the museum we visited as well. A great place to visit someday if you get the chance!

Treasure Falls Hike

We took the girls on their first hike where they actually HIKED THEMSELVES...no carrying anyone. They did amazingly well, it was rated as easy, but was still hard work for their little legs! The bonus at the end was a great waterfall, which they loved. The weather was perfect that morning too! Good job girls!!

Kid Fun!

The resort had family activities that we did a few of. Riley, Syd & Armand colored in Kid Krafting one afternoon, and then Riley & I did a t-shirt making class. But honestly, I think the 3 of them became mini-golf addicts. The kids wanted to play it every day! They actually weren't half bad, Riley & Armand were the best golfers every time. Syd & I were the slackers.....

Geese & Ducks EVERYWHERE!

Canadian Geese where everywhere, and they were often what would wake us up in the morning. They loved to be fed, and the girls loved feeding them!

The first morning we arrived in Pagosa, there was a hot air balloon festival, which the girls loved! It was a beautiful morning for it, although a little chilly. None of us were inclined to actually ride up in one though....
